Mark Clattenberg criticizes Michael Oliver’s ruling against Tottenham as being the “wrong one.”

The youthful player has made an impression with his Premier League exploits, and Udogie has been a key member of Tottenham this season. Still, the left-back was fortunate to avoid a straight red card during the intense match against Chelsea after losing his cool.

The Tottenham defender’s reckless challenge on Raheem Sterling merited a straight red card, according to former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg. With his studs visible, the Tottenham defender led with both feet when he was flying during his challenge. It was fortunate for the Chelsea winger to avoid a catastrophic injury.

Not the right choice. A couple of things made Destiny Udogie fortunate. First, to avoid suffering a major injury, Raheem Sterling removed his leg. The second reason is because Brooks failed to inform Oliver that this challenge deserved a red. With two feet out in front and visible studs, Udogie sprang into the air. Clatterburg penned an article for the Daily Mail on November 7, page 69, stating that precisely this kind of challenge has to be prohibited in football.

After receiving a yellow card for challenging Sterling in the first half, Michael Oliver made the decision to send him off early in the second half for another challenge on Sterling.

Tottenham has been very good as a team this season, despite the loss to Chelsea, and they will want to recover well in the upcoming days and weeks. Chelsea will have gained a lot of confidence from the victory over Spurs, though, following a season that was underwhelming by their standards.
