To prepare for Wolves, Jermaine Jenas hints alterations for Spurs.
This suggests that Tottenham’s defense may not recover as quickly, but Postecoglou emphasized in his pregame news conference that he will fight the urge to alter his team’s high defensive line strategy (Football.London).
Jermaine Jenas thinks Spurs may have to switch tactics against Wolves
Jenas thinks that in order for Australia to deal with the loss of Romero and van de Ven, systemic adjustments may be necessary.
“I mean, given what just happened with Spurs and the depletion of some of their most important players, it’s a tough game,” he said to TNT Sports.
“They lost their two center halves, one due to a ban and the other to an injury. The back four that has been so vital to Ange Postecoglou will undergo a total overhaul with the departure of the left-back as well. He may need to modify the system in some way.
The former midfielder for Spurs believes that Postecoglou should play Rodrigo Bentancur or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in place of the injured James Maddison. Giovani Lo Celso is not expected to fill that role.
“I’m expecting maybe someone like [Rodrigo] Bentancur or [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, who was absolutely brilliant, but he might have to feature at center hal,” he said. “Maddison’s gone as well.”
“It’s going to be a real mismatch between the team he puts together and an opponent who, in my opinion, is also hurting.”
Though he acknowledged that he did not think the Lilywhites would keep a clean sheet, the pundit supported them in their attempt to extract a point from Molineux.
“I do think Spurs will get a result out of it,” the 40-year-old continued. Given what has just transpired, I believe that Ange Postecoglou will still benefit from a draw for the time being.
Given that the score will be 2-2, I believe Brennan Johnson will be primed to score his first goal, followed perhaps by Kulusevski. In the upcoming weeks, I don’t see the Spurs maintaining many clean sheets.
We can damage Wolves with our offensive prowess, but as Jenas points out, we will be vulnerable defensively against their quickness up front. Our greatest chance of winning all three points could be to adopt an ultra-attacking strategy that turns this into a straight shootout.
