Pablo Fornals exit stance emerges as West Ham United contract news drops on Tuesday

Claret and Hugh say that Pablo Fornals still wants to leave West Ham even though it has been announced that his contract is being extended at the London Stadium.

Following a tip on Twitter by 6foot2 editor Sean Whetstone on Tuesday, December 5, indicating that the Hammers had triggered a one-year contract extension for the Spanish midfielder, club insider Claret and Hugh verified the activation of the option on their website.

It also said that a club source disclosed that the 27-year-old still wants to leave the Irons, despite interest from La Liga teams Barcelona [Fabrizio Romano, November 23] and Sevilla [Estadio Deportivo, November 17]. The Irons hope to obtain compensation for him by extending his contract in the summer of 2019.

The insider responded, “Yeah, he does, but by extending the deal, we should get some money in the summer,” when asked if Fornals wanted to depart.

In order to make sure they receive payment for a player they paid Villarreal more than £20 million for in 2019, it makes sense for the West Ham administration to activate the provision in Fornals’ contract.

He has been a solid servant for the club over the past few years as he gives everything when he steps out onto the pitch and has been part of some special moments.

But the midfielder’s performances have dropped off a bit in recent times and he now finds himself very much down the pecking order at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard has been a little impatient with his playing time as a result, so it is understandable that he is eager to move on and find himself more consistent first-team action somewhere.

Since an unhappy player in the camp is the last thing anyone wants, it would be better for us to let him leave now that his contract matter has been handled and the Hammers will probably receive a price for him.
