Sport have revealed that Xavi Hernandez’s wish of signing Giovani Lo Celso is set to collapse as Tottenham do not want to offload the midfielder.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Xavi had communicated to the Barcelona administration his desire to sign Lo Celso in January, following the team’s unsuccessful attempt to do so in the summer.
The Spanish coach allegedly saw it as a litmus test for how much the Catalan club supports him.
Tottenham do not want to sell Giovani Lo Celso
Sport has now confirmed the same report, saying that Xavi “made clear” to the club’s leadership that Lo Celso is the best option to take Gavi’s place, who is injured.
The 43-year-old is rumored to be a fan of the Tottenham player and think he can get along well with Robert Lewandowski.
The source notes that it will be difficult to complete a possible deal for Lo Celso, first and foremost because it is unclear if Barcelona could pay the midfield player’s wage.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Tottenham “haven’t agreed” to start talks for the Argentina international.

Postecoglou has made it quite evident that Lo Celso is an integral component of his plans since the summer. The Australian’s opinion of the 27-year-old would not have changed for whatever reason. It becomes much more likely that the Argentine will leave in the summer rather than in January.
