Exeter centre Tom Hendrickson is to leave the club to move to Japan.

The 29-year-old will join Hanazono Liners in the Japanese top division after making 87 appearances for the Chiefs since his debut ten years ago.

Born in New Zealand, the back was raised in Cornwall and attended Exeter Academy.

He was a member of the Chiefs team that defeated London Irish in the Premiership Rugby Cup final the previous season and the Anglo-Welsh Cup final in 2018.

Exeter head coach Ali Hepher stated, “Tom was eager to experience something outside of Devon and Cornwall, where he’s played all his rugby.”

“We didn’t want to be in the way of him having an experience that could change his life, but he was probably going to look for it next year.

“He goes with our best wishes, he’s been in fantastic form this year and I’m sure he’ll be a success over there.”

Hendrickson stated on the team’s website: “It’s sad to be leaving the club after ten years there.

“Having grown up in Cornwall and looking up to all the great players that have worn the Exeter colours, I have loved my time wearing a Chiefs shirt.

“Being a part of the Chiefs journey and some phenomenal moments has been incredibly special to me – I made memories that will last a lifetime.”
