To Lawrence Lofts and his mates in London, their 49ers fandom is far less about the city of San Francisco, the franchise’s colors or its NFL history.
For one reason only, Lofts founded the “Jimmy G-Unit London Niner Chapter” in the United Kingdom: “The drink.”
Lofts, a native of London and the head of one of the more than 100 local Niner Empire fan clubs chapters worldwide, had no plans to start rooting for the 49ers. “The 49ers were winning everything” in the 1980s and 1990s, he remarked, alluding to the team’s five Super Bowl triumphs in 14 seasons from 1981 to 1994.
