Ever since Mike McCarthy took over as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, he’s built an all-star staff of coaches that rivals the cast of Oppenheimer. It looks like the players agree. The NFL Player’s Association released the results of a recent survey taken with over 1,700 player participants. This was the goal of the survey provided by the NFLPA website:
As part of the second annual NFLPA Player Team Report Card initiative, which involved anonymously conducting detailed player surveys* across all clubs during NFLPA visits last autumn, NFL players were asked to evaluate their offensive, defensive, and/or special teams coordinators. Based on survey responses from each team’s players, these coordinators have the highest average rating among their teams’ players. To emphasize the good, the NFLPA is only releasing the top five coordinators in each area.highlighting and emphasizing the beneficial effects coaches may have on players around the league by releasing a list of the Top 5 coordinators in each area. In front of the upcoming hiring season, we also want to make sure that clubs are paying attention to and considering the thoughts .
According to the NFLPA, the purpose of this study is to assist in elevating the top coordinators in the NFL for the upcoming head coach job cycle. Since 2021, Quinn has been the top candidate for head coach, having led the league in takeaways for two straight seasons while elevating the Cowboys’ defense to a whole new level.Quinn unexpectedly left head coaching posts last summer to go back to Dallas, surprising a lot of people. The seasoned coach declared that his objective was to lead America’s Team to victory. Quinn said that he wanted no one else to coach his team. Quinn may be the team’s top pick because his squad is once again leading the defensive stats. Quinn may already be on the Los Angeles Chargers’ short list of preferred candidates.
Schottenheimer and Fassel have spent most of their careers as coordinators. Fassel is the only one with head coaching experience becoming the Los Angeles Rams interim coach in 2016.
For Schottenheimer, he’s been with the Cowboys since 2022, starting as an offensive consultant. After Kellen Moore left for the Chargers, it opened the offensive coordinator position. McCarthy named Schottenheimer the new offensive coordinator, and both men have helped develop a blend of a West Coast-style offense. This offense has gotten the best years out of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Jake Ferguson, probably catching the eyes of higher-ups around the league. It seems like players enjoy playing for Fassel as a coach. Speaking with current long snapper Trent Sieg and former Cowboys linebacker Justin March-Lillard, it is evident that Fassel makes a lasting impression on his players, improving them as professionals. For the past two years, Fassel has taken “cast-off” kickers and turned them into formidable assets for Dallas.
Brett Maher was among the NFL’s top scorers prior to last year’s disastrous playoff run. He was also establishing records for the most 50-yard kicks in a season. When the Cowboys were searching for a new kicker, they came upon Brandon Aubrey, a USFL all-star. After 35 kicks, Aubrey has established himself as the NFL’s most accurate kicker and earned a spot in his first Pro Bowl. Given that “Bones” was the Cowboys coach with the highest NFLPA ranking, it would be fascinating to see whether the poll results in his being given consideration for head coaching.Dallas may experience coaching upheaval if they advance deep in the playoffs. This is a hallmark of a consistently strong squad, but winning the NFC Championship after 27 years may put them in a position identical to that of the Philadelphia Eagles, whose performance suffered when they replaced two coordinators in one summer.
