According to reports, Celtic is up against competition from a number of European teams for the services of a gifted young midfield player.

Romeo Amane, a midfielder for Hacken, is reportedly being pursued by several teams, including Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Scottish champions have made Amane, an Ivorian midfielder, their top target. The Hoops are reportedly looking to add a midfielder in January, and Amane is reportedly on their shortlist.

Since joining the Swedish team in January 2022, Amane has been a consistent starter. He has also started the majority of the team’s Europa League matches. With six goal contributions this season, the box-to-box midfielder is one of Hacken’s most important players.

The iconic Irish midfielder, who was raised as a Hoops fan, signed with the Parkhead giants before the January 2006 transfer window opened, realizing a lifelong dream.

Before hanging up his boots for good in the summer, Keane made just 10 appearances in the Scottish Cup, but no Celtic fan alive at the time will ever forget his debut against Clyde.

Having recently gone on record as saying he “embarrassed” himself while playing for the Hoops, Keane has now discussed his unsuccessful time at Celtics once more on Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast.

Roy Keane on Celtic culture shock

Roy Keane talked about the stark contrasts between Celtic’s and Manchester United’s training facilities at the time this time.

Although the 52-year-old took the time to illustrate how much of a change it was for him, he now acknowledges that Celtic’s Lenoxtown facilities for players nowadays are significantly better than when he was at the club.

Ian Wright began by discussing his 1998 departure from Arsenal, and Keane intervened with a personal story of his own.

“You talk about getting a shock, I remember going to Celtic—it’sthisiconic, amazing club,” Keane remarked. However, I leave United. Celtic Park is an incredible stadium, but I hadn’t really seen the training ground.

“I’m reliving a few years of my childhood, they have a great one now, but I was in the Celtic dressing room watching them change. I had previously been at United, but you change at Celtic Park and drive to the training ground in your boots and gear.

“Normally it was f****** pouring up there when three or four of us would drive in the car, train, and then get back in the car and drive back. Suddenly, you find yourself thinking, “This is different.”

Despite all of United’s comforts, I did like having a different dressing room. The Celtic boys were generally great boys, though there were one or two idiots among them. Because the dressing room at Celtic was different, I truly enjoyed my time there.

The daily training ground for former Celtic stars was Barrowfield. Keane’s assessment is accurate, as Barrowfield would be left behind due to the club’s need for upgraded facilities only a year after he left the Hoops.

Barrowfield still has a Celtic future, but moving to Lennoxtown was the right move at the time. The location will be refurbished and serve as the focal point for the women’s team as well as the boys’ and girls’ academies, the club announced in 2023.

Perhaps Keane ought to return once the refurbishment is finished and enjoy a more agreeable surprise at Barrowfield than he did in 2006.
