Ravens waive former Super Bowl champion ahead of playoff opener

There won’t be a chance for one seasoned back to carry the team to another Super Bowl triumph.

Melvin Gordon, a running back, was waived by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. Days before Baltimore’s divisional round playoff debut against Houston on Saturday, the decision was made.

The 30-year-old Gordon had been with the Ravens for the entire season, but he hardly played. During the regular season, he appeared in just four games for Baltimore, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on 3.1 yards per carry.

Even though he didn’t play for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, former two-time Pro Bowler Gordon already had a Super Bowl ring. But he won’t have the opportunity to repeat because the Ravens will have another former running back star to eat up the extra carries as they go into the postseason.

Ravens Gear Up For Playoff Showdown Against Texans: Young QB C.J. Stroud Earns Respect Despite Earlier Loss

The Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans will play in the NFL Divisional Round. The Ravens’ opening playoff game will be crucial, and the Texans’ previous meeting with the Ravens ended in a loss.

C.J. Stroud became one of the most gifted rookie quarterbacks and set NFL rookie records as the season progressed. In preparation for their matchup with the Houston team, the Ravens have nothing but high regard for the Stroud.

The quarterback for the Texans is the youngest in league history to reach the payoff game stage. According to Brandon Stephens, cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, “He’s a pretty good quarterback, can make all the throws.” He is undoubtedly more aware of that offense. However, it goes without saying that we must perform our duties, make it difficult for him to read, and generally make things difficult for the offense.

Outside linebacker Odafe Oweh of the Ravens praised Stroud’s development as well, saying, “I feel like they’re a whole different team.” That C.J. is a whole other QB. I think that since we helped him grow up, he has been having a great time. I hold him in the highest regard. People play obviously harder during the playoffs. Thus, we also need to arrive with a different energy.

Despite missing two games during the regular season, Stroud finished with the eighth-most passing yards. This season, Stroud had only thrown five interceptions.

Geno Stone, the safety, had said, “He’s not endangering the ball.” He’s smart with the ball and making plays for his teammates. We are different from them, but so are they. As a defense, we advanced. We have guys who have returned from injuries as well as guys who we have added this year. We’re prepared for this chance.

Devin Singletary, the running back, and wide receiver Nico Collins joined linebacker Roquan Smith in praising Stoud. “We wouldn’t want it any other way,” he said, acknowledging that the offense was clearly clicking. They are the team that is entering this area, and we are ready and willing to fight them no matter who they are. Business is conducted as business.
