In the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes will captain the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers for the second time in the previous five years.
When Super Bowl LVIII gets underway in Las Vegas on February 11, the two-time champion will try to hand the 49ers yet another defeat.
Speaking positively about the NFC champions, Mahomes had nothing but praise for them in their forthcoming encounter.
According to Mahomes, watching their team play is enjoyable on Tuesday (The Mercury News). They have been pursuing individuals over the past few years. They have many of the same players even though they have had a few different coordinators.
In Super Bowl LIV back in February of 2020, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory over San Francisco after they fell behind by 10 points in the fourth quarter.
But for both teams, a lot has changed. Primarily, Brock Purdy will be starting for San Francisco following his best Joe Montana impression in an NFC Championship Game victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Mahomes remarked, “I knew they were a great team and would probably get back when we played them that time.” “You never know when you might return. It will be a terrific challenge for us because we are both returning to the Super Bowl and facing each other once more.
Kansas City is currently a two-point underdog against San Francisco going into the Super Bowl, despite being the reigning champions.
Much of that can be attributed to Purdy starting this time around in the big game instead of Jimmy Garoppolo against Kansas City the previous time around. In his postseason career, the sophomore is 4-1; his lone defeat occurred when he sustained an early injury during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles the previous season.
Over the previous two seasons, Mahomes has made six playoff starts and thrown 11 touchdowns against zero interceptions.
Prior to Super Bowl LVIII, one of the main narratives will center around this quarterback matchup.
