Although alignment camps are being held by the Springboks in March of this year, fans will not get to witness the Green and Gold in action until July.
With all of the Springboks’ home games confirmed, we now know who they will play throughout the 2024 campaign.
First off, the Springboks have extended their 2024 Test schedule to include a Test against Portugal. The one-off encounter will take place after the two-match series against Ireland.
In addition to playing Portugal in Bloemfontein on July 20, the team led by Rassie Erasmus will play Ireland in Pretoria and Durban on July 6 and 13, 2024.
SPRINGBOKS
The Springboks will have resumed play following a 252-day layoff when they take on Ireland at Loftus Versfeld. A week later, the Six Nations champions regroup at Kings Park for their first visit to South Africa in eight years.
The Rugby World Cup pool stage saw the Springboks win 2-1 in the 2016 series, but Ireland has subsequently won all three meetings (and five of the previous seven) between the two teams, most recently in an exciting 13-8 victory in Marseille.
NEW GROUND
In the city of roses, the Springboks will play their first Test match against Portugal one week later on July 20. Portugal also left a lasting impression at the Rugby World Cup, winning their last group match 24-23 against Fiji after an exciting draw with Georgia.
In addition to the Rugby Championship, two Rugby Championship Tests will be held in August and September in New Zealand, the other World Cup finalists. On August 31, the Boks will attempt to defeat the All Blacks three times in a succession for the first time since 2009.
