Michigan Football Recruiting: Where Wolverines Stand with Five Stars

With the recruiting dead period set to end, it’s time to talk about recruiting again. With Sherrone Moore leading Michigan football, recruiting has been at the top of many fan’s minds. There is a general belief that recruiting will be better under Moore due to his aggressive recruiting technique, but that obviously remains to be seen.

For the Wolverines, NIL is still a major question mark. Although Michigan football appears to have improved its NIL game, it’s unclear if it will have an impact on recruits as the team has focused a lot of its efforts on player retention rather than player acquisition. Hopefully, Coach Moore will make improvements in this area, as he recognizes the value of NIL in the competitive recruiting landscape of today.

Although Michigan football was recently dropped from David Sanders’ top six, the Wolverines are still shooting their shot with multiple other five stars. With that being said, let’s check in on some five-star recruits that Michigan is actively pursuing, and look at where the Wolverines currently stand.

    1. Safety DJ Pickett (FL)

This may be the biggest recruitment of the 2025 cycle. Pickett is the #1 safety in the country and is a Florida indigenous. Together with Michigan, Georgia, Oregon, LSU, and Miami, he recently issued a top five. This doesn’t appear good for Michigan at first because the other four schools in the top five are well-known NIL powerhouses.

Michigan, though, is connected to this place. Pickett’s mother studied at Michigan, and he has kin in the Detroit region. While Michigan is undoubtedly hurting from the loss of Steve Clinkscale, I have no doubt that Lamar Morgan, the new DBs coach, will be contacting Pickett as soon as possible to establish a rapport.

For Pickett, Michigan football should be close to the top if Morgan can establish that connection. Michigan is in a strong position here, even though it’s too soon to know.
