Postecoglou to give another Spurs ‘wonderkid’ first team start

Mikey Moore, a young player from Tottenham, impressed the coaches and spent a full week practicing with Ange Postecoglou’s first squad, according to football.london.

Moore is a highly regarded player in the game even at the age of 16, and Spurs pulled off a remarkable coup last summer when they convinced the 16-year-old to sign a three-year contract that will see him into his first professional contract when he turns 17 in August, despite the attention of clubs throughout the Premier League and Europe.

Moore was crucial to Tottenham’s U18 and U17 squads’ victories in the Premier League Cups the previous season, which was won by Stuart Lewis’ youth team.

After agreeing to that contract, the young attacker—who can play up front, on the wing, or as an attacking midfielder—has experienced mixed results. With 14 games played for Tottenham’s U18s, he has impressive stats of 16 goals and 9 assists. There have only been two games this season in the U18s Premier League when he has not scored, and only one in which he has not assisted on a goal when available.

In addition, the talented young player helped England’s U17 squad qualify for the European Championship by dishing out two assists and scoring four goals.

Nevertheless, two excruciating injuries sustained throughout this season have negated all of that improvement. First, he broke his leg while playing for his country; then, when he returned, he injured his ankle ligament while playing for Lewis’s youthful Spurs team. The gifted adolescent was about to take the field for Wayne Burnett’s dominant U21 football team when those injuries occurred.

The young player, who is now healthy and one of the players this month, has benefited from a few extra days of exposure to Postecoglou’s first team setting. Moore was believed to have spent a significant amount of time this week at Hotspur Way working with the Australian after making an impression on the coaches earlier in the season.

When Spurs return to action next Sunday in the north London derby against Arsenal, they will have been out of action for nearly two weeks.London is aware that the boy was invited in on Monday to participate in training, and that he spent the entire week working with Son Heung-min & Co. after attracting the coaches’ attention.

Moore still has a ways to go in his development, with U21 football expected to be the next step as he keeps pushing himself against more experienced, powerful players, but this was another encouraging development in a challenging season that presented the young player with many unanticipated obstacles to overcome.
