Solanke reveals what Harry Kane told him in private chat.
While the club and the players may not see it this way, Dominic Solanke has taken up the unenviable mantle left behind by Harry Kane as the man to lead the line for Tottenham. Now, the striker has explained how he feels about that, and what his predecessor said to him about the move.
Solanke isn’t interested in Kane comparisons
With a big price tag, Solanke was always going to feel pressure at Spurs anyway, never mind having to be the club’s next big striker after someone like Harry Kane.
But, the marksman has made a strong start to life at Tottenham, with two goals in two games, and some solid, hard-working performances.
Speaking to The Mirror about the idea of stepping into Kane’s boots at Spurs, Solanke insisted he is not feeling that kind of pressure and is simply focused on being a success in his own right.
He said: “No, not really. Harry is who he is. I don’t think anyone would want to see him replaced anyway. He’s a world-class striker. But I’m here now and I want to score as many goals as I can for Tottenham and hopefully, we can win some trophies.”

What did Kane say to Solanke about Spurs?
In a rather fitting pass of the baton moment during the summer, Solanke came face-to-face with Kane when Bayern Munich visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a pre-season friendly on the same day Tottenham’s new boy was announced to the crowd.
Solanke revealed what was said, adding: “I actually saw him when Bayern Munich came here during pre-season. Harry came into the changing room and I spoke to him – we had a few words and he obviously only had good things to say about the club.
“It was probably just what you expect. But he spoke so highly about Spurs, how good the players and staff are here.”
Solanke doesn’t need to be the new Kane
I would say Solanke has the right mindset here. There’s no need for him to come in and try and be what Harry Kane was. He’s a different kind of striker anyway, and as long as he does his job and puts in the effort we’ve seen already, the goals will come and the fans will love him.
