Good news Michigan Sportscaster Comically Used Drawings of National Title Game Highlights Due to TV Restrictions

A Michigan news station’s sports team came up with a clever workaround when they realized they couldn’t air the national championship game’s highlights until the entire broadcast.

On Monday night, Sam Ali, the sportscaster for Mid-Michigan NOW, informed viewers that the station was unable to air any actual footage from the Michigan Wolverines’ 34–13 victory over the Washington Huskies “due to certain broadcast restrictions.” While most news outlets would have ended there, Ali and the sports team created a fun surprise.

The station drew the highlights from the National Championship since it was unable to air them.

The Michigan-Huskies game was effectively turned into a cartoon when viewed against Ali’s captivating play-by-play commentary.

The “highlight reel” opens with a drawing of a colored-in green field with rough hash lines, presumably created with Microsoft Paint or some other inexpensive program, and Ali saying that the grounds crew did a great job.

Reversing course One of Michigan’s bright spots during the game, Donovan Edwards, became a happy stick figure as Ali told the story of how Edwards scored the game’s first two touchdowns. The Huskies defenders’ dejected expressions are noticeable.

Michael Penix Jr., Blake Corum, J.J. McCarthy, and other celebrities were also given the stick figure treatment. Ali even included a humorous picture of McCarthy and Corum indicating with their hands where their rings would go.

After nine years as coach, Jim Harbaugh brings home a championship for his alma mater with a proud trophy lift at the end of the animation.

The Wolverines’ victory for the national championship was a true masterpiece that should be framed. This sportscaster’s amusing artistic interpretation of the game was also hilarious.
