During his first year at Alabama, Kalen DeBoer had to make the hardest decision regarding the most significant position. He has to decide which quarterback will start for Alabama in 2024 and going forward.
His predicament will worsen as soon as Ty Simpson announces his official plans for the future. He declared that he would not be transferring before Nick Saban’s retirement. On Monday, the rising redshirt sophomore shared a picture on social media showing his affection for Tommy Rees. It’s not a given that Alabama’s current offensive coordinator will rejoin the new team.
What does Simpson’s situation entail? We’re not sure.
In the end, it would be extremely beneficial for DeBoer if Simpson were to make his anticipated return. It wouldn’t, however, decide the matter for him.
Jalen Milroe appears to be making a comeback, according to early signs. After his new head coach was hired, the starting quarterback confidently announced that he would stay, and he later recapped a memorable encounter with DeBoer during their first meeting.
Simpson seems to be staying put as well. Perhaps. Formerly rated as a five-star prospect, he was only surpassed by Drew Allar, Cade Klubnik, and Conner Weigman as the No. 4 player at his position.
At one point, it was thought that Simpson would eventually take over as Saban’s go-to signal-caller. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound “pro style” quarterback was Alabama’s fourth-best-ever quarterback commit.
Although a lot of people believed that this past year would be the year, Milroe was finally selected for the 2023 season. Is it going to be the same in 2024? We’re not sure.
One of the most potent offensive schemes in the nation is led by DeBoer and Ryan Grubb, his offensive coordinator. Milroe might not be the most suitable for the plan. As a passer, Simpson might present a better opportunity to go vertical.
