A veteran of Michigan football hopes to return in 2024

Houston — This season, Michigan football veteran quarterback Jack Tuttle—a transfer from Indiana who came in and mentored JJ McCarthy and others—has played a significant (though underappreciated) role in the Wolverines’ success. During the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, Tuttle told the media that he would like to play another season in Ann Arbor in 2024, or he would like to return as an assistant coach. Before Tuttle plays in what might be his final collegiate game this coming Monday in the national championship game against Washington, Michigan quarterback coach Kirk Campbell provided additional details about what Tuttle brings to the table this past weekend.

In the Wolverines’ 2024 quarterback competition, players like Alex Orji, Jayden Denegal, and a few others from the transfer portal are getting more attention than anyone else. That being said, JJ McCarthy could return, and if the NCAA grants him a seventh season, Jack Tuttle might also have a chance to win the job.

Kirk Campbell described Jack Tuttle as a seasoned player who transitioned from a spread offense to a more play-action, under-center, pro-style offense. “There, he has simply learned a great deal,”

QB coach Kirk Campbell has more on Jack Tuttle.

Jack Tuttle, who will be among Michigan football’s most battle-tested players this autumn, has witnessed a lot of college football during his time in the NCAA. Even though his playing days are over, Tuttle has stated that he wants to remain a coach with the Wolverines going forward, which could be equally beneficial for Michigan.

Campbell stated, “(Tuttle has) seen a lot of football.” He has participated in three programs to see what has and has not worked. That has been useful for our room, in my opinion. Then he is developed. He is very wise. It’s simply fantastic for the other guys to observe and utilize as a model.”

Jack Tuttle may play his last game for the Maize and Blue on Monday when Michigan football competes for a national championship. At least as a player. But keep an eye out for Tuttle to join the Wolverines as an assistant during the upcoming offseason; they could benefit from his seasoned knowledge in the quarterback room and other areas.
