In the national championship game on Monday night, the Michigan Wolverines will play the Washington Huskies, and head coach Urban Meyer, a three-time national champion, believes his team has a significant advantage in their linemen on both sides of the ball.
In a recent episode of Urban’s Take with Tim May, Urban Meyer clarified that Michigan’s command of the game this year “begins and ends with the line-of-scrimmage.”

It was excellent, according to Meyer. “I used to say that talent equated, but in my opinion, everything begins and ends at the line of scrimmage. We used that term all the time. in games where skill is matched. Everyone is going to be extremely skilled. There’s no shortage of skill when you go out and find it.
There are plenty of elite skill players in the game, but Meyer notes that there aren’t many truly exceptional offensive linemen.
“You ask for the top 25 wide receivers, and I can tell you that they’re all excellent. Of course, there is Marvin Harrison; however, if you ask for a list of the top 25 offensive tackles, you won’t find many. There aren’t any when you say, “I want to go find the top—give me the top 25 centers.” Not twenty-five guys. For those top four or five guys, it’s a fistfight, Meyer stated.
When I watch them play, that’s what I see. Although they are still developing, they are incredibly talented players. They have an excellent coach. They play with a lot of [heck].
On Monday, it will be interesting to see if Michigan’s trench play turns out to be the deciding factor.
