Michigan safety Quinten Johnson declares for 2024 NFL Draft
One last player from Michigan announced their decision to enter the NFL on Friday, even though many of the team’s 2024 NFL Draft prospects had already announced their decisions earlier in January. Quinten Johnson, a fifth-year senior safety, made the announcement on his Instagram page that he would be declaring for the draft this time.
In 2023, Johnson had a bit of a breakthrough season. He played safety in 14 games and finished with 22 tackles, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble. Johnson has mostly contributed to special teams during his time in Ann Arbor after redshirting as a freshman in 2019.
Johnson may not have played the most snaps or filled the stat sheet, but when he did get the chance, he definitely made some huge plays. He made a huge pass breakup on Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka in “The Game.” Against Jalen Milroe and Alabama, he also forced a fumble that led to Michigan’s Rose Bowl victory.
Johnson may not be highly regarded on draft boards right now, but he should have a chance to establish himself as a special team player on a roster at a higher level. When building a roster ahead of the season, any NFL team would value his four years of experience playing under coach Jim Harbaugh.
Johnson was one of the 2019 recruiting class members to arrive at Michigan. After playing high school ball at St. John’s in Washington, D.C., he was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.
Even though Johnson may not be the most well-known player in the prospect pool for this April’s draft, his contributions to Michigan’s most important games in 2023 cannot be undervalued.
