Anonymous Alabama football official defends Michigan’s sign-stealing

Speaking about the Michigan sign-stealing scandal, an Alabama football official mentioned that teams all over the country engage in similar behavior.

Regarding the accusations of sign-stealing in the Michigan football scandal, there have been strong opinions regarding whether it was strategic or cheating. In the most recent CFP Semi-Finals, Michigan football took on Alabama football and emerged victorious in a thrilling fashion. Normally, Alabama football is the talk of college football, but in 2023–2024, Michigan has drawn more attention. In this instance, an official from Alabama chose to sign with Michigan, presumably in reference to the famous Ricky Bobby saying, “If you’re not first, you’re last.”

An Alabama official said to Brett McMurphy of Action Network, “Look, everyone is stealing signs. I mean, everyone.” Not just Michigan was engaging in this activity.

Despite dropping a game in the 2023 season, Alabama football was still able to qualify for the College Football Playoffs. They had to play an undefeated Michigan football team, and the scandal dominated most of their pregame questions. The Crimson Tide was outmatched even though they battled to the very end of the Rose Bowl.

If the Wolverines were to lift the Championship trophy, the question is whether their National Title would have an asterisk next to it. It doesn’t seem like a big deal to this Alabama official. The unidentified source may mention that Alabama football engages in sign-stealing on its own or that he has witnessed it occur in other programs across the nation.

The Michigan Wolverines will have the opportunity to play for a national title on Monday, though it is unclear what effects this scandal will have on the team. The reader will decide whether or not it is something they earned.
